Start A Revolution

from Nobody Joins a Cult by Joe Gould

/

about

"Stop bitching and start a revolution" say the tshirts and bumper stickers of the inhabitants of Zendik Farm.
These themes were originally part of S04E01 of LTAS, and are one of the furthest departures from the percussion+synth palette I'd been writing with up to this point. With a group known for their music festivals and hippy-era-throwback messages, I wanted to homage psychedlic jam band music of the 60s - drone bass, mixolydian riffs, and of course plenty of backwards guitar and tape echo.
At the start and throughout is the main theme of the podcast, pitchshifted down by 2 octaves to create an ominous drone.
My guitar lead came loose in one take, so I sampled the sound which became the glitching sound sprinkled throughout, serving as a reminder that this hippy ideal may not be all it seems.
